Cesky Krumlov State Castle, Cesky Krumlov: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby
Cesky Krumlov State Castle sprawls across a rocky promontory above the Vltava River in South Bohemia, making it the second-largest castle complex in the Czech Republic after Prague Castle. Construction began in the 13th century under the Witigonen family and continued through the Rosenberg, Eggenberg, and Schwarzenberg periods, layering Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements across 40 buildings and five courtyards. The castle theater from 1766 retains original stage machinery, costumes, and hand-painted scenery. UNESCO inscribed the entire old town including the castle in 1992. If you're making a trip of it, consider other main attractions in Cesky Krumlov, like Ceske Budejovice and St. Vitus Church (Kostel sv. Vita).
