Arena of Nimes (Arenes de Nimes), Nîmes: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby

The Arena of Nimes is a 1st-century Roman amphitheater in the center of Nimes, built around 70 AD to seat roughly 24,000 spectators across two stories of 60 arches. The elliptical structure measures 133 by 101 meters and remains one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters anywhere, having served as a fortress, a walled village, and eventually a restored monument after the 1786 evacuation of its interior. The arena hosts the twice-yearly Feria de Nimes bullfighting festival each Pentecost and September, along with summer concerts. Admission costs around 10 euros with an audio guide.
