Place Stanislas, Nancy: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby

Place Stanislas in Nancy was designed by architect Emmanuel Here and completed in 1755 under the patronage of Stanislaw Leszczynski, the deposed King of Poland and Duke of Lorraine. The square measures 106 by 124 meters, enclosed by five symmetrical Rococo buildings and connected to Place de la Carriere through a triumphal arch. Jean Lamour's gilded wrought-iron gates and fountain railings at each corner are among the finest examples of 18th-century ironwork in France. UNESCO inscribed the ensemble as a World Heritage Site in 1983, and a nightly light show projected onto the facades runs from June through September.
