Nizwa Fort rises 40 meters above the oasis town that served as Oman's capital during the 6th and 7th centuries, anchored by a massive circular tower completed in 1668 under Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Yaruba. The tower was built specifically to repel cannon attacks, with stone walls over 30 meters thick at the base filled with rubble and earth.
