Barú Volcano National Park, Boquete: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby

Baru Volcano National Park covers 14,000 hectares in western Panama, centered on the 3,474-meter stratovolcano that is the highest point in Panama. A rough unpaved road climbs to the summit from Boquete, typically traversed overnight from around midnight in 4x4 vehicles or on foot to reach the crater for sunrise, when both the Pacific and Caribbean oceans can be seen simultaneously from the summit on clear mornings. The 6-hour hike each way is strenuous and requires guides or registration. Park entry runs around $5 USD, with summit access restricted to daylight return hours. If you're making a trip of it, consider other main attractions in Boquete, like Los Ladrillos and The Lost Waterfalls.
