Choquequirao, Cusco: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby

 

Choquequirao is an Inca citadel on a ridge at 3,050 meters elevation above the Apurímac River gorge in Peru's Cusco region, often called the "sister city" of Machu Picchu. The site covers roughly 1,800 hectares of terraces, plazas, and stone buildings, of which only about 30 percent has been excavated. Reaching Choquequirao requires a two-day trek descending 1,500 meters to the river and climbing back up the opposite side, with no road or rail access.
