Negombo Beach runs roughly 3 kilometers along Sri Lanka's western coast about 10 kilometers north of Bandaranaike International Airport, making it a common first or last stop for visitors. The sandy strip is lined with mid-range hotels, seafood restaurants, and the catamaran fleets that have worked these waters for generations. Early morning fish auctions at the Lellama market on the northern end draw crowds from around 6 AM. Swimming conditions are generally calm except during the southwest monsoon months of May through September. If you're making a trip of it, consider other main attractions in Negombo, like Muthurajawela Marsh and Negombo Lagoon.
