Eiger, Lucerne: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby

 

The Eiger is a 3,967-meter peak in the Bernese Alps of central Switzerland, one of three mountains—alongside the Mönch and Jungfrau—that form the iconic wall visible from Grindelwald and Interlaken. The north face, a 1,800-meter vertical limestone wall, remained unclimbed until 1938 and has since been the site of over 60 fatalities. The Jungfrau Railway, completed in 1912, tunnels through the interior of the Eiger on its way to the Jungfraujoch station at 3,454 meters, with a window carved into the north face at the Eigerwand stop.
