Great Point Lighthouse, Nantucket: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby

 

Great Point Lighthouse marks the northern tip of Nantucket Island at the end of a 7-mile stretch of soft sand accessible only by four-wheel-drive vehicles with an oversized vehicle permit from the Trustees of Reservations. The current stone tower, rebuilt in 1986 after a storm destroyed the 1818 original, stands 60 feet tall and remains an active navigational aid. The surrounding barrier beach and salt marsh habitat support nesting piping plovers and least terns, with seasonal closures enforced during breeding months.
