Elfreth's Alley is a narrow residential street between North 2nd Street and North Front Street in Philadelphia's Old City, continuously inhabited since 1702 and recognized as the oldest residential street in the United States. The 32 Georgian and Federal-style brick row houses date from 1728 to 1836 and were originally home to tradesmen—blacksmiths, furniture makers, and silversmiths.
