Mt. Fansipan rises 3,143 meters as the highest peak in Vietnam and mainland Southeast Asia, in the Hoang Lien Son range above Sapa in the country's northwestern highlands. A 6.3-kilometer cable car opened in 2016 climbs from Sapa to a station near the summit in around 15 minutes, followed by roughly 600 stairs to the peak itself. The summit holds a Buddhist temple complex completed in 2018 with a bronze Amitabha statue and several pagoda halls.
