Great Orme Mines, Llandudno: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby

Great Orme Mines are a Bronze Age copper mine complex on the Great Orme limestone headland above Llandudno in north Wales. Archaeological excavations since 1987 have uncovered roughly 8 kilometers of tunnels dating to around 3,500 years ago, making this the largest known prehistoric copper mine in the world. Visitors descend into a section of the original workings, where stone tools and bone scrapers were used to extract malachite ore from narrow seams. The surface site includes an exhibit of recovered artifacts, and the mine entrance sits about a 10-minute walk from the Great Orme Tramway summit station.
