Zambezi River, Zambia: How to Visit and What to Do Nearby
The Zambezi River flows 2,574 kilometers from its source in northwestern Zambia to the Indian Ocean in Mozambique, the fourth-longest river in Africa. The river forms the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe for much of its middle course, including at Victoria Falls, where it plunges 108 meters across a 1.7-kilometer-wide basalt lip. Upstream of the falls, the river broadens to nearly 2 kilometers, and sunset cruises depart from the Royal Livingstone dock. Below the falls, the Batoka Gorge creates Class V rapids popular with commercial rafting operators. When in Zambia it's worth considering not only but another main attraction like Mongu.
